Neighborhood Refocus

Our 5th annual Year End Celebration took place May 16th. We remembered God’s work in the schools through Minding The Gap (MTG) and the many volunteers required to bring the gospel to Hickman Mills ISD. Afterward, Tim and I reflected on the past five celebrations and how this one was by far our favorite. The luncheon was filled with praise, laughter, testimonies, and voices from principals, administration, teachers, and local volunteers. Besides sharing his own testimony, Tim was the “gameshow host” bringing the laughs and raffles. Our favorite part, however, was the shared passion for Jesus. The room was alive with celebratory “Amens!” and “Hallelujahs!” all centered around the fact that five schools heard about Jesus weekly, five schools benefited from tutoring help to reach the illiterate, and five schools received teacher and administration support in varied, specific ways as needs arose. May God make Himself known in this coming school year in many more ways.

This summer we shift our outreach focus to our neighborhood because many of the students we serve through MTG live there. With summer approaching, we will oversee several ministry opportunities in our neighborhood and invite the youth group at our local church to join. This is only the start of what Tim and I believe is a priority for us when we think about time management. We’ve lived in this same, troubled neighborhood for five years and realized that we’ve grown accustomed to life here. With the familiarity, we’ve grown busy with work outside of the neighborhood and have lost focus on the very needs RIGHT next door. We see this summer as a personal reset to re-engage the lost in our neighborhood with vigor. Our primary strategy is prayer. Serving our neighbors with our youth group through various activities this summer is a bonus!

Please pray with us:

  1. That God will give us a fresh wind of vision and passion for our neighbors.

  2. That the work through the various outreaches this summer will impact the youth from our church with deeper maturity in their own walks with God.

  3. That the lost are saved.
